Until I didn't.
I get asked a million times a year about where I find inspiration. Truthfully, it comes from life. Inspiration is found in song lyrics, overheard conversations in Kroger, and people watching at wrestling meets. (I sit in the stands and makeup stories to go along with the people I watch. What can I say? Wrestling meets equal a lot of time to kill.)
But one major place I find the little nuggets that my stories often include is my real life.
30 years ago today, this boy asked this girl to be his girlfriend.

Granted, he had asked me many times before this, and I said no. Why? Because what was I supposed to do with a bad boy?
(Oh, sweet little Addy. The things you'll learn as you get older. Ha!)
This picture was taken after five years of dating, and about a year before we got married. Also, it was taken in the early 00's, so it's a picture of a picture. Don't judge the quality.
I wouldn’t classify my husband as a romantic by any stretch of the imagination, but I would absolutely call him book boyfriend material. He does the dishes without being asked because he knows I loathe them. He tells the car salesmen to talk directly to me, not to him, because I’ll be the one driving the truck we’re about to purchase. He will apologize first if he’s wrong, listen to all my ramblings at the end of the day with the patience of a saint, and fix anything that breaks.
Did I mention that he’s the best dad to our four sons? Swoon!
So, if you’ve ever wondered where the heroes in my books begin, it’s with him. <3
